Man dies after getting 'trapped under forklift' in horror industrial accident

A man has died following an accident at a business premises in Birmingham where he had become trapped under a forklift truck.

The incident took place in Station Road close to the junction with Summer Road and Short Heath Road in Erdington on Tuesday, September 17 with the man pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services were called to the 'industrial incident' shortly after 10am. Ambulances and police cars rushed to the scene following reports that a man in his 50s was said to have been trapped under a forklift truck.

Despite the efforts of police and medics from the ambulance service, nothing could be done to save him. Images show the business yard in Station Road, Erdington cordoned off and police officers carrying on their enquiries.

The small cordon remains in place at the premises this afternoon but traffic remains unaffected. Police are still at the scene as they investigate the circumstances of the tragic incident that is opposite the the Red Lion pub.

A police statement read: "We were called to reports of a man trapped under a forklift truck at a premises on Station Road, Erdington at around 10.14am this morning (17 Sept). A man believed to be his 50s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries to establish exactly what happened are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed."

An ambulance service spokesperson told BirminghamLive: "We were called to an industrial incident on Station Road at 10.11am, two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
