Google Introduces AI Feature To Convert Notes Into Podcasts: Learn How To Use It

Send Push
Google is experimenting with a fresh feature that allows users to convert their research notes into AI-generated podcasts. This innovative functionality, currently part of the NotebookLM app, which leverages AI to assist with note-taking, can “summarize your material, connect different topics, and engage in interactive conversations.”

Named Audio Overview , this tool offers a new way for users to transform their documents into immersive audio dialogues. In a recent blog post, Google highlighted that with a simple click, two AI hosts initiate a lively, deep discussion based on the information you provide. Users can even download these AI-driven conversations for later use.

The Verge, after testing the feature, noted that the AI hosts speak in a conversational style and sound remarkably human. However, there were some quirks, like the AI occasionally spelling out words, such as “P-L-U-S.”

To take advantage of this new feature, users can open a notebook within NotebookLM, access the notebook guide, and select the “Generate” button to create an Audio Overview of their material.

Though this feature can help make research notes more engaging, Google has stated that it remains in an experimental phase. There are some known issues, such as longer processing times for larger notebooks and limited language support—currently, only English is available. Additionally, the AI-generated hosts may introduce some inaccuracies, and users have no option to interrupt them once the conversation begins.

Earlier in 2024, Google expanded NotebookLM to over 200 countries and enhanced the app’s large language model to the Gemini 1.5 Pro version, further refining its capabilities.
