Hassan: Former Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee Chairperson Bhavani Revanna re-entered Hassan district on Monday (April 7) after nearly ten months, following conditional relief granted by the Karnataka High Court.
Bhavani Revanna, who had been barred from entering both Hassan and Mysuru districts, was implicated in a case related to the alleged abduction of a woman from K.R. Nagar — the same woman who accused former MP Prajwal Revanna of sexual assault. The High Court, on Friday, granted Bhavani conditional permission to visit both districts.
Upon her return, Bhavani Revanna received a grand welcome at the Hirisaave border. Supporters lit fireworks and performed traditional aarati to greet her. Celebratory gatherings were also held in Channarayapatna and Holenarasipura, where JDS party workers welcomed her warmly.
Initially, as part of her anticipatory bail granted on June 18, 2024, the High Court had imposed strict conditions preventing Bhavani from entering the Mysuru and Hassan districts. However, the single-judge bench headed by Justice Pradeep Singh Yerur recently relaxed these restrictions. The court now allows her entry into the districts but prohibits her from coming within 500 meters of the victim’s residence or that of any key witnesses in the case.
The case stems from a police complaint filed late on May 2, 2024, at the K.R. Nagar police station in Mysuru. The complainant, son of the alleged victim, claimed that his mother had been abducted and that her image had appeared in an obscene video allegedly involving former MP Prajwal Revanna. The FIR named Bhavani Revanna, her husband and former minister H.D. Revanna, and a relative named Babu.
Following the filing of the FIR, Bhavani Revanna had applied for anticipatory bail in the Karnataka High Court, which was granted with restrictions — now partially lifted.
