US President Donald Trump was seated in the front row at the funeral of Pope Francis, contrary to what was speculated, according to the protocol of the Vatican. The Telegraph, UK, earlier reported that Trump won't be getting the front-row seat because Catholic royalty will get the first preference, followed by the non-Catholic royals. And then the world leaders will have their seats in the third row. It was seen as a humiliating snub to Trump, who mocked former president Joe Biden in 2022 for his 14th seat during Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.
While Trump-haters were waiting for a similar treatment for the president, the Vatican reportedly made some changes in their sitting arrangement as Trump was given a front-row seat, along with First Lady Melania Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was also at the front row.
But a fresh controversy eclipsed the seating row as social media users disapproved of the blue suit that Trump was wearing, ditching black -- the color that stands for mourning.
"Trump the only world leader without the respect to wear black at Pope Francis funeral . He’s a disgrace to America and the world. God bless Pope Francis," one wrote.
"What is it with Trump that he did not even have the decency to wear a black tie, never mind he wore a blue suit," another commented.
"Look at our tone deaf, idiot President Trump wearing blue at Pope Francis funeral. Not a day goes by that this makeup covered moron doesn't embarrass us on the world stage," a third user wrote.
“This is what’s happened to America in just two short years. No respect. However, a good time for our president to get to know the leaders of certain Third World countries," Trump wrote, roasting Biden in 2022. “If I were president, they wouldn’t have sat me back there – and our Country would be much different than it is right now. In real estate, like in politics and in life, location is everything," he had said at that time.
