Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested the owner of a nursing home at Dengausta in Ganjam district's Digapahandi police station limits for allegedly conducting a delivery without the presence of any registered medical practitioner, which led to the death of a woman and her newborn on May 11.
"Mangulu Charan Pradhan (35) of Dengausta, the owner of the nursing home, was arrested from his village based on a complaint filed by the deceased's husband, Babu Nayak of Korakhandi," said Prasant Kumar Patra, inspector-in-charge of Digapahandi police station.
Earlier, Madhusmita Pattanayak and Pramodini Gamango, both nurses at the nursing home, were arrested on May 19 and Aug 10 respectively for conducting the delivery without a registered medical practitioner. The nursing home was sealed on Aug 8 for allegedly running illegally.
