Sri Lanka President Anura Dissanayake discussed the Trump administration's reciprocal tariff war with PM Modi amid concerns in the island nation that it could constrain its recovery from financial crisis. Trump has imposed 44% tariff on Sri Lanka, highest in south Asia. Modi assured him India will always stand by Sri Lanka as it encountered and dealt with these difficulties. According to foreign secretary Vikram Misri, Dissanayake emphasised how important it would be to strengthen economic ties to deal with the tariff fallout. "He emphasised in particular the importance in this regard given these kinds of geoeconomic developments that have a certain impact on Sri Lanka, especially given the economic situation now, and the economic passage Sri Lanka is passing through at the current moment," said Misri.
