J&K ecnounters: Security forces and terrorists exchange fire in Srinagar and Kishtwar, army personnel injured

NEW DELHI: Two separate encounters took place in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday between terrorists and security forces. In Srinagar, the Kashmir police, with other security forces, launched a joint operation in the Zabarwan forest area while an encounter between security forces and terrorists took place in the Keshwan area of Kishtwar.

In Kishtwar, an rmy personnel was injured during a gunfight with terrorists in the remote Keshwan forest. The encounter began around 11 am when joint search teams of the Army and police came upon terrorists hiding in the dense forest.

This operation, which started Thursday evening after the killing of two village defence guards, intensified as security forces zeroed in on the suspects in the Kuntwara and Keshwan forests.

"An encounter has started in Keshwan-Kishtwar between terrorists and security forces. Three to four terrorists are believed to be trapped," a police spokesperson stated.


"A joint Police and security forces operation was launched in Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. An exchange of fire ensued during the operation," Kashmir police said in a post on X.



Earlier on Saturday evening, one terrorist was killed in an ongoing operation with security forces in the Sopore area of Baramulla district. Additonally on November 3 also three terrorists, including wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) 'commander' Usman Lashkari, were killed in two separate anti-militancy operations in Kashmir. Two policemen and two CRPF jawans were also injured during the operations.
