PM Modi spoke about how Operation Sindoor demonstrated the country's resolve to strike and annihilate terrorists "inside their homes".
"Sardar sahab prioritised India's unity and sovereignty above everything else. Unfortunately, in the years since his death, successive govts did not show enough seriousness to sovereignty. Govts of the day chose a spineless approach over Sardar's path. As a result, India tolerated bloodshed for years," he said.
The PM said Patel wanted the whole of Jammu and Kashmir to be unified with India, just like he unified other princely states. But Jawaharlal Nehru allegedly did not allow his wish to come true. Though Kashmir and the entire country paid such a heavy price, Congress always had a weak-kneed approach towards terrorism," he said.
Modi said his govt took inspiration from Sardar Patel's policy, and the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 brought Jammu and Kashmir "into the national mainstream".
"We all know the ill treatment meted out by Congress to Sardar Patel, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr (Ram Manohar) Lohia and Jay Prakash Narayan," he said, adding that it was the NDA govt that restored their legacies with respect.
"We built the Statue of Unity as a tribute to Sardar...We gave due credit to PMs and their contributions by rising above politics. We gave Bharat Ratnas to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur and Pranab da , who remained committed to Congress for life. We even honoured Mulayam Singh Yadav with a Padma award," Modi said.
On illegal immigrants, the Prime Minister said they were the biggest threat to India's internal security.
