Elon Musk recently voiced his criticism of Donald Trump’s trade advisor Peter Navarro following the reciprocal tariffs announcement. The Tesla CEO publicly agreed to a quote by Thomas Sowell that reads “In every disaster throughout American history, there always seems to be a man from Harvard in the middle of of it” - a direct hit at Navarro who holds a PhD in economics from Harvard. In a latest, Navarro has responded to Musk’s remarks stating “Elon when he’s in his DOGE lane is great, but we understand what’s going on here” adding “Elon sells cars. He’s simply protecting his own interests”.

In an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures”, Navarro said that the supply chain of tech billionaire-owned Tesla is clearly set to take a huge hit from the new tariff regime. Pointing out that while Teslas are made at factories in Texas, he said: “they get a lot of their content from China, Mexico, Japan and Taiwan and elsewhere.”

‘There’s no rift’, says Trump advisor

Navarro denied there was any rift between them during the interview. He said “There’s no rift here. Look, Elon, he’s got X, he’s got a big microphone. We don’t mind him saying whatever he wants.”

“But, just, the American people need to understand that we understand, what that’s all about, and it’s fine,” Navarro continued.

Elon Musk vs Peter Navarro: How it started

As mentioned above, Musk recently took a dig at Navarro, who is in favour of strict tariffs. During his appearance on CNN following the US government's recent tariff announcement, Navarro defended the tariffs and mentioned his Harvard background in a positive light.

A clip from the interview was shared by an X user. Responding to the post, Musk said that having a PhD in economics from Harvard is a "bad thing." “A PhD in Econ from Harvard is a bad thing, not a good thing. Results in the ego/brains>>1 problem,” he stated.

When a user replied with a quote by Thomas Sowell reading “In every disaster throughout American history, there always seems to be a man from Harvard in the middle of it”, Musk agreed with it, saying “Yup”.
