Send Push
When the seniors failed to deliver, the juniors lit up the day with their fighting abilities, but India crashed out of the Sudirman Cup after losing their Group D match 1-4 to Indonesia in Xiamen on Tuesday. PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy lost and the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto won the only point for India.

Indonesia and Denmark progressed to the quarterfinals with two victories apiece. India and England will play an inconsequential tie on Thursday. China and Thailand (Group A), Korea and Chinese Taipei (Group B), Japan and Malaysia (Group C) completed the quarters lineup. Dhruv and Tanisha pulled off a thrilling victory against Rehan Naufal and Gloria Emanuelle 10-21, 21-18, 21-19 in the first match. Trailing 16-19 in the third game, the Indians won five straight points to stun the Indonesians.

Sindhu was expected to beat Putri Kusma Wardani. But Wardani broke no sweat in her 21-12, 21-13 victory. Sindhu looked clueless as Wardani won the contest in 38 minutes.

Prannoy looked good in patches before going down to Jonatan Christie 21-19, 14-21, 12-21. In a must-win women’s doubles tie, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra were beaten by Lanny Tria Mayasari and Siti Fadia 10-21, 9-21.
