A widespread power outage disrupted proceedings at the Madrid Open on Monday, shortly after world number four Coco Gauff and rising Russian star Mirra Andreeva secured victories in their respective quarter-final matches.

The electrical failure, which impacted "the whole of the Iberian Peninsula and part of France," according to Portuguese electricity network operator REN, brought play to a halt across the venue.

The quarter-final clash between Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov and British qualifier Jacob Fearnley was interrupted on Centre Court, with Dimitrov leading 6-4, 5-4 as Fearnley fought to stay in the match.

The ATP reported that the outage had disabled electronic line-calling systems and even left a spider cam dangling precariously over Manolo Santana Stadium, underscoring the extent of the disruption.

Tournament officials took to social media to announce that efforts were underway to restore power "as quickly as possible," although no specific timeline was given.

Before the disruption, American star Gauff cruised past Switzerland's Belinda Bencic 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals, while 17-year-old Andreeva continued her impressive run with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ukraine's Yuliia Starodubtseva.
