Mary Kate Cornett is an 18 year old college freshman at the University of Mississippi, where she is studying business. Her name got involved in a rumour, and suddenly the rumour was being talked about by Pat McAfee on his show even though he did not take her name. In a recent interview, Mary Kate Cornett opened up about what she went through and her feelings towards Pat McAfee.

Last week, The Athletic reported the things that college freshman Mary Kate Cornett had a harrowing time when the rumour was spread on the internet and it was later picked up by Pat McAfee.

Recently, Mary Kate Cornett appeared in a televised interview for NBC News after she shared her story with The Athletic.

In a recent interview with NBC News, Mary Kate Cornett said, “I thought it was absolutely ridiculous that an ESPN sports broadcaster would be talking about a 19-year-old girl’s ‘s*x scandal’ that was completely false.”

She added, "I’m not a public figure that you can go talk about on your show to get more views.”

What happened was suddenly there were rumours amongst college students about an Ole Miss college freshman cheating on her boyfriend with her boyfriend’s father. This rumour was then linked to Mary Kate Cornett for unknown reasons, and she was trending on X for it.

Pat McAfee spoke about Mary Kate Cornett’s rumour but did not reveal her name or identity on his show

On 26th February, the popular host spoke about Mary Kate Cornett's rumour on his show which had gone viral by then.

In the episode, Pat McAfee asked Adam Schefter, "Have you heard about Ole Miss?...Some Ole Miss frat bro, OK? Had a K-D (Kappa Delta) girlfriend — allegedly...this is what is being reported by everybody on the internet- Dad had s*x with son’s girlfriend.”

Pat McAfee has not commented on the whole controversy yet but fans have been furious at him. Many fans have called him out for being “irresponsible” and not knowing the repercussions of saying such words on his show.

For the University of Mississippi student, Mary Kate Cornett, her boyfriend has also spoken in her support and has not left her side as she deals with this ordeal. Even her parents have continued to support her and have spoken in support.

Fans are currently awaiting an official statement from Pat McAfee and ESPN about the whole controversy.
