Will Stephen A. Smith ever run for President? As of now, he has been giving answers not aligned with assurance, but it is no secret that he has been quite vocal about his political takes. Recently, Smith called out Candice Owens for her surprising take on Donald Trump . It was a sharp U-turn on her part, which left Smith speaking on the incident on his Stephen A. Smith show.

Stephen A. Smith stressed the need for common sense, urging people not to get caught up in extreme views and to recognize that sometimes both sides have valid points. Weighing in on the situation, he pointed out that Candace Owens wasn’t completely off base, mentioning that Trump is well aware that Harvard pulls in billions of dollars in funding.
“Ladies and gentlemen, there’s something to be said about exercising common sense, not living on the fringes or the extreme, and deducing that both sides can actually make sense,” Smith said on his Stephen A. Smith show after finding out what he called, an interesting “headline” about the whole ordeal.
“First off, to stop the presses and disappoint some of y’all: Candace Owens is not totally wrong. The President knows that Harvard receives billions of dollars in funding,” he continued.
“So when you hear stuff like the president is trying to impose his will on a country’s oldest university, accusing it of engaging in anti-semitism, along with other things, wanting them to eradicate DEI programs , how far-fetched is it to deduce that he’s trying to control speech? [That] he’s trying to control what institutions of higher learning are actually teaching and disseminating to the masses.”
In the early days of his second term, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at tightening the government's response to antisemitism in the wake of the devastating October 7, 2023, attack. According to CNN, the order highlights the growing concerns over Jewish students facing relentless discrimination, harassment, and physical threats on U.S. campuses. While no specific universities are named, the directive pushes federal authorities to explore ways to monitor foreign students and staff, particularly those linked to potentially harmful political movements.

Under the executive order, the administration has increased pressure on top universities, particularly Harvard, urging them to address concerns related to foreign nationals and their involvement in pro-Palestinian protests. The White House has taken a firm stance, suggesting that any foreign scholar found endorsing terrorist activity could face deportation or visa revocation. On top of that, just last week, the Trump administration directed him to immediately stop all ALS research at the lab amid a broader freeze of more than $2.2 billion in federal funding.
