The Detroit Pistons finally broke their playoff curse with a hard-fought 100-94 win over the New York Knicks. Led by Cade Cunningham’s impressive performance, the Pistons managed to tie the series 1-1 and gain some much-needed momentum heading into Game 3.
Cunningham was in his absolute form, scoring 33 points on 11-of-21 shooting. He also went 10-of-12 from the free-throw line and added 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in 42 minutes. Tobias Harris backed him up with a solid double-double of 15 points and 13 boards, shooting 54.5% from the field. Jalen Duren added 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks, showing his presence in the paint despite a -8 in the plus-minus column.
Dennis Schröder provided a boost off the bench, contributing 20 points while shooting 60% from both the field and beyond the arc. He also hit 5-of-6 free throws and tallied 3 assists.
Detroit shot 44.6% overall, going 6-of-27 from deep and 28-of-34 from the line. They outrebounded the Knicks 48-39, grabbed 7 steals, and turned the ball over 15 times. The Pistons now head home with a renewed sense of confidence and a chance to take the lead in the series.
Despite another scoring masterclass from Jalen Brunson, the New York Knicks came up short in Game 2. Brunson poured in 37 points on 12-of-27 shooting, including four three-pointers and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. He also chipped in 7 assists and 2 steals, doing everything he could to will his team to victory. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the Knicks’ shooting struggles and a lack of consistent offensive support.
Mikal Bridges added 19 points while going 8-of-18 from the field, but he struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 3 of his 11 attempts. OG Anunoby and Josh Hart each scored 10 points, combining for 12 rebounds and 7 assists. However, the frontcourt failed to make a major impact, especially with Karl-Anthony Towns scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 boards but not getting to the free-throw line at all.

New York shot just 42% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range, going 10-of-35 from deep. The team missed opportunities in the paint and didn’t get much help from the bench. Miles McBride provided 8 points off the bench, but the rest of the second unit went scoreless in limited minutes. Mitchell Robinson managed to grab 7 rebounds, but failed to score, while Cameron Payne and Landry Shamet were non-factors.
In total, the Knicks committed 22 turnovers, which again cost the team the crucial matchup.
