Adin Hill actions triggers backlash in heated Oilers game

Vegas Golden Knights goalie Adin Hill is in the headlines but not for his ability to make saves. Following a 3-0 defeat to the Edmonton Oilers during Game 4, talk is not of Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner and his shutout. Rather, fans and commentators are spouting about Adin Hill's erratic behavior on the ice, excoriating what many consider dangerous and underhanded play against Edmonton players.

Adin Hill slashed elbows and tricks officials during a loss
Adin Hill fought with Oilers forward Zach Hyman throughout the first period. He slashed Hyman with his stick, pounded him with his blocker, and elbowed him after Adam Henrique's goal. As Vegas went down 2-0, Adin Hill's frustration appeared to overflow.

In one moment of controversy, Adin Hill extended his leg into the road of Oilers forward Mattias Janmark, sending Janmark tripping over it. Officials sent Janmark to the penalty box despite replay evidence that Adin Hill initiated the contact. Adin Hill's actions didn't end there.

Evander Kane was shoved into Adin Hill during Henrique's second goal by Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore. Although it was a consequence, Hill lost his balance and punched Hyman. Ironically, it was Kane who was penalized, not Hill or Theodore.

Most hockey analysts were perplexed and outraged by the way the referees dealt with these situations. Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman commented, "I don’t understand in that one Kane play how Vegas got the power play out of it."

Sportsnet's Mark Spector further commented, "I still don’t get that one. Kane got knocked into him by McNab and then Hill went after Hyman. I understand we’re trying to protect the goalies. And I really believe in protecting the goalies, but how they got a power play out of that one, I have no idea."


Experienced writer Jim Matheson also called out Hill's behavior, saying, "Hill is losing it on almost every play around the net." He explained Hill swinging at Kane and shoving Hyman onto the ice without being called on it. Commentator and retired player Paul Bissonnette opined, "Hill has gone nuclear. He’ll be getting the Bronx cheers all night if he doesn’t get the hook."
