George Clooney responds calmly after Trump calls him a “fake actor,” says he's just speaking his truth

Hollywood star George Clooney has responded to recent criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, who called him a “fake movie actor” on social media.

According to a report by Variety, Clooney appeared unbothered by the insult and said that his priority is speaking the truth, not seeking approval from politicians.

The disagreement between the actor and the president began after Clooney wrote an op-ed for The New York Times in which he urged former U.S. President Joe Biden to step aside from the upcoming presidential race. The piece led to backlash from Donald Trump, who lashed out at Clooney through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. In that post, Trump mocked Clooney’s acting career and accused him of betraying Biden. According to Variety, Trump wrote that Clooney had "never come close to making a great movie" and referred to both Clooney and Biden as "rats."

In response, George Clooney addressed the situation during an interview on CBS Mornings. He made it clear that he wasn’t bothered by Trump’s remarks. “I don’t care,” he said, as quoted in Variety. The Ocean’s Eleven star explained that he had known Donald Trump for a long time and didn’t feel the need to impress him or any political leader. Instead, Clooney emphasized that his role as a public figure is to speak out when he feels it’s necessary.

Clooney also acknowledged that not everyone would agree with his statements and that criticism is part of expressing one's views. He mentioned that even Elon Musk had commented on him but insisted that everyone has the right to their opinion—just as he has the right to voice his own.

“I know that people won’t like it. People will criticize it. That’s fine,” he said. “It’s their right to speak, and it’s my right to speak too.”

The situation reflects a broader conversation about celebrities speaking out on political matters and how those opinions are received by the public and political figures alike.
