Raipur: Several students of Guru Ghasidas Central University in Bilaspur have alleged that a programme officer forced them to offer namaz on Eid at a recent NSS camp.

The university has formed a three-member fact-finding committee to investigate the allegation.

The students filed a complaint at Koni police station in Bilaspur, saying they were made to perform namaz at the camp organised by the university in Shivtaraiin, Kota block, from March 26-April 1, 2024. Some 159 students had participated. Students allege that when they protested, they were threatened that their certificates wouldn't be given to them.

"The students have filed a complaint with us, demanding action against the programme officer, coordinator and other staff members. We have sought details from the university after which police can take the next course of action," said Koni SHO Kewat.

Professor M N Tripathi, media in charge of the university, said: "We have formed a committee, taking cognizance of an official intimation from Koni police and the news that's circulating."
