Bomb threat email to collector warns of planted IED, Chhattisgarh's Kabirdham collectorate sanitized

RAIPUR: A bomb threat message was received on the official email ID of Kabirdham district collector in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, prompting police to conduct a thorough search of the premises and collector’s chamber.

Kabirdham Collector Gopal Verma confirmed receiving a bomb threat via email targeting the Collectorate building.

Speaking to the media, Verma said, "The threat was received through an email around 10 AM. At this point, we do not know where it originated from. We have informed the police, and they are investigating the matter at their level. Security forces are present at the site, and the investigation is ongoing."

Authorities are treating the threat seriously, and precautionary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of all personnel at the Collectorate.

Additional Superintendent of Police Pushpendra Singh Baghel said that the email was sent by an unidentified person, that said, "an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted in the Collectorate office and we will blow it up by 2.30 pm," he said.

A police team along with the bomb disposal team and a dog squad, carried out thorough search on the premises and nothing suspicious was found till evening. The premises was vacated till the search was going on.

The cyber unit was on the job to trace the account of the person who sent the email and the security at Collectorate premises was intensified.
