Nagpur: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Deshmukh Trading Company in the Hingna Naka area on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Ahan Suraj Nayak, a resident of Shramik Nagar (Hariganga), MIDC. He was returning home with his mother, Tulsi, and nine-year-old sister, Sneha, after attending tuition classes in Ramdaspeth. The family had taken an auto-rickshaw and was alighting near their home when the accident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, Ahan was hit and dragged by the truck just after getting down from the auto-rickshaw while his mother was paying the fare. Locals rushed the injured boy to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Tulsi also sustained injuries to her leg in the accident. MIDC police acted swiftly, tracing the truck and apprehending the driver.
This incident has once again brought attention to the growing menace of speeding heavy vehicles on Hingna Road. Despite repeated appeals from local residents for the installation of speed breakers and improved traffic regulation, authorities have yet to take effective action.
Ahan's untimely death has sparked widespread outrage in the community. Citizens are demanding immediate steps to enhance road safety, including the installation of speed bumps and stricter monitoring of heavy vehicle movement in residential areas.
The Nayak family is devastated by the loss. What should have been a routine journey home ended in heartbreak, leaving the family and the community mourning an avoidable tragedy.
