Mandya: In a significant move aimed at addressing civic lapses and public grievances, Upalokayukta Justice B Veerappa conducted a surprise inspection across various parts of KR Pet town. The inspection brought to light several administrative shortcomings, prompting the Upalokayukta to issue strong reprimands to negligent officials and announce further action. He announced that suo motu cases would be filed against several officials for dereliction of duty.
Justice Veerappa first visited the Dundashetti Lakshmamma Memorial Govt Hospital, where he expressed grave concern over lack of hygiene and neglect of patient care. He admonished hospital staff for their indifference towards cleanliness and health standards, holding the administrative officers accountable for these lapses.
He then proceeded to inspect the KR Pet State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand, public toilets, residential localities, and the fish market. Disturbed by the unhygienic conditions, he criticised the health department and municipal authorities for their failure in maintaining public sanitation.
At the KSRTC bus stand, residents complained about the lack of sufficient bus services between KR Pet and Mysuru during peak hours. Responding to the concerns, Justice Veerappa sharply criticised the officials and emphasised the urgent need for improving public transportation facilities.
Environmental concerns also featured prominently during the visit. Locals complained about waste from the fish market and untreated sewage contaminating Channappana Katte, which flows into Hosaholalu lake and Deviremmanni lake. Justice Veerappa expressed his deep dissatisfaction with the overall performance of municipal officials, health authorities, and transport officers. He directed tahsildar Ashok to compile and submit a comprehensive report based on the public grievances gathered during the inspection.
The Upalokayukta's inspection has sparked hope among residents for swift administrative reforms and improved public services in KR Pet.
