Kochi: Marking a proud milestone for Kerala in the country's tech landscape, a major portion of India's first fully designed artificial intelligence (AI) server was developed by techies based in Kochi.

The server developed by Manesar-based VVDN Technologies was inaugurated by Union minister for electronics and information technology Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday at Manesar.

After the inauguration, Vaishnaw took to X to call the innovation ‘Adipoli'—a Malayalam word meaning "fantastic." When informed that 80% of the work on the server was done at VVDN's Kochi office in Infopark, he responded with a smile, "Shall I use a Malayalam word for this? Adipoli!" while pointing to the system.

"The eight-GPU AI server is part of the next gen supercomputer Param and contributes to the national mission on artificial intelligence. This is called Rudra -3 AI server, part of the Rudra series and part of the 8 GPU cluster. This is the first time it is being done in AI," said Joseph George, senior vice president - adaptive compute and comms, VVDN Kochi.

He said that such a level of supercomputing will play a role in weather forecasting and disaster management at the immediate citizen-end and also in secondary level research like thermodynamics and medical technologies to understand how medicines will interact with the body.

Vaishnaw was at VVDN Technologies' office in Manesar to inaugurate the state-of-the-art surface mount technology (SMT) line and mechanical innovation park at the company's Global Innovation Park, Haryana.

Vaishnaw said that electronics manufacturing in India has grown fivefold in the last six years, with the total value crossing Rs 11 lakh crore. Exports have seen a sixfold increase over the last decade and now exceed Rs 3.25 lakh crore. "India now has the talent not only to manufacture but also to design sophisticated electronic products," the minister said, adding that this gives the country a significant edge over others lacking in design capability.
