ALWAR: A tragic accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway claimed the life of an Army Major's wife and left their three-year-old daughter critically injured as the family was rushing back to Delhi following the cancellation of the officer's leave amid India-Pakistan tensions on Sunday.
Major Vikram Gupta, stationed in Delhi, was traveling with his wife Vaishali Vajpayee and daughter Rehana when their vehicle suffered a catastrophic tyre burst near the 82-number culvert in the Naugaon police station jurisdiction.
The incident occurred while the family was returning from Kota after the Major received immediate recall orders from army headquarters. According to police sources, the tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The impact forced the car door open, ejecting both Vaishali and three-year-old Rehana onto the road. Local residents quickly responded to the accident and rushed the victims to a nearby hospital in Alwar.
Medical staff pronounced Vaishali dead upon arrival, while Rehana remains in critical condition at a private hospital in Alwar. The body was released to the family following completion of post-mortem procedures.
Major Gupta, a resident of the Dilshad Garden area in Delhi, had been visiting family members in Kota when he received instructions to return immediately due to the developing situation at the India-Pakistan border.
The tragic accident has highlighted the personal sacrifices made by military families during times of national emergency. Local authorities are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
