Aizawl: Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) chairman Malsawmzuala Ralte on Wednesday said 153 Mizo youths have obtained employment within a year through various commission initiatives.
During a press briefing at the MYC office, Ralte said among these successful candidates, 33 have been appointed to govt positions. Speaking about the progress since Feb 2024 under the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) administration, which took office on Dec 8, 2023, he noted that 588 students have registered at MYC coaching centres across Aizawl, Lunglei, Siaha, Champhai and Kolasib for the 2024-2025 academic year.
He revealed that through MYC's partnership with Honda corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the Visan Foundation, the initial phase of hospitality sector training concluded successfully, with 97 of 122 participants securing positions in various hotels.
On international prospects, Ralte confirmed that 247 Mizo youths have applied for British Army recruitment, with five candidates currently in the UK for assessment and four awaiting visa outcomes.
He voiced concerns about the commission's restricted budget, noting that govt funding is inadequate for supporting their comprehensive activities. He indicated ongoing efforts to acquire additional funding from alternative sources.
