Pune: A 23-year-old car driver by profession lost control of his vehicle while ascending a slope and hit a 13-year-old boy, killing him.
The incident occurred at Shrusti Nivas Society at Bolenath Chowk in Kondhwa Budruk around 6am on May 8.
The Kondhwa police have identified the deceased as Nivrutti Bajirao Kiswe of Kondhwa. The police arrested the car driver, Zaid Nasir Shaikh, a resident of Bhagyodayanagar, for causing the victim's death due to negligence.
Senior inspector Vinay Patankar on Monday said Shaikh was passing a school in Kondhwa Budruk and heading towards Khed Shivapur. "He was ascending a slope when he lost control of the four-wheeler while taking a right turn. He hit the gate of a housing society and veered the car in a bid to gain control over it. However, Shaikh then hit Kiswe, who was walking on the street. The minor was seriously injured in the accident. He was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival," Patankar said.
The police took Shaikh's blood sample at the hospital to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
"The blood sample test report is awaited. Shaikh was subjected to a breath analyser test, but its report was negative,"the officersaid.
"Kiswe is the son of a casual worker. We have impounded the car for RTO inspection," Patankar added.
