Chennai Air Cleanest Among Metros And This Area in City Has AQI 45

Chennai: While most of the cities across the country are battling with poor air quality, the capital city of Tamil Nadu is setting an example by maintaining a better air quality index (AQI) as compared to its other metro counterparts. The overall AQI of Chennai as of 7 am CPCB data on Saturday stood at 86, the cleanest among metros.While the AQI in Ahmedabad stood at 177, Bengaluru at 123, Delhi at 294, Hyderabad at 107, Mumbai at 160 and Pune at 202.The AQI in Arumbakkam is at 111, Alandur Bus Depot at 101, Kodungaiyur at 72, Manali at 128, Perungudi at 76 and Velachery Res at 72. A locality in Chennai has perhaps the best air with an AQI of 45 and the place is Royapuram.As Chennai breathes easy, cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata continue to battle 'poor' to 'very poor' air quality which can cause severe health problems to people without any comorbidities and poses severe risk to those suffering from any respiratory or immune system-related illness. Now, according to the prediction of the India Meteorology Department (IMD), the air quality will mostly remain clean in the city as rain with thunderstorm is expected on Saturday in several parts. Rain is likely to continue in Chennai till Monday with slight relief on Tuesday.However, the sky will remain partly cloudy. On Wednesday and Thursday, Chennai is predicted to witness one or two spell of rain with temperatures hovering between 25 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius.
