Telangana police ramp up security for Ganesh idol immersions

Hyderabad: The Telangana police is making elaborate security arrangements for ensuing the Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) processions go peacefully in the state following communal skirmishes and attacks in the past few months in Telangana.

Dr. Jitender, director general of police (DGP) Telangana, held a meeting with the police officials including SPs and Commissioner’s in the State and asked them to make foolproof security arrangements for the processions.

The police is maintaining high surveillance in Asifabad, Adilabad, Bhainsa, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy, Sangareddy and other sensitive towns in Telangana in view of a rise in activities of few radical organizations owing allegiance to right wing groups.

During Eid-ul-Adha festival tension earlier this year, a violent incident were reported over sale of cattle in Sangareddy during which a mob had attacked Muslim houses and shops. In Jainoor of Asifabad in the last two weeks, an alleged incident of a tribal woman being sexually assaulted triggered attacks on commercial establishments and houses belonging to minority communities.

In Chengicherla of Telangana, there was some tension between two groups over playing of songs near a mosque and again it led to disturbances in the area for some days. Higher ups have decided to deploy anti-riot forces in the communally sensitive towns to deal with any form of communal trouble. Intelligence agencies have warned of possible communal strife owing to the current political situation in the Telangana.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jitender along with officials of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police inspected the 19 kilometer Ganesh Visarjan procession route on Saturday.

The DGP instructed all the officials to put in their best and have perfect coordination to resolve any pending issues.

C V Anand, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police stressed upon the significance of the city police as the nodal department and emphasized on ensuring smooth and swift movement of the procession along the route for which all ranks have to contribute their best.

For the Ganesh festival, nearly a 25,000 strong police force is being deployed consisting of personnel from Hyderabad City Police as well as forces drawn from outside.
