Cleaning the mattress is one of those jobs that doesn't get done too often. Thanks to sheets and mattress protectors, it's not something we're faced with on a weekly basis - but it does still need to be tackled now and then to remove bacteria and germs.
Things like makeup, fake tan and other spillages can seep down through the sheets and leave unsightly stains on the mattress. They might seem difficult to wash away, but there's one tip from the Queen of Clean herself that could come in very handy. Lynsey Crombie recently took to Instagram to sing her praises about one mattress cleaning tip that's 'so satisfying'.
She highlighted that fake tans stains are a real nightmare to get rid of - and if you've ever slept in fake tan then you'll know the struggle all too well.
Sheets only go so far to protect the mattress, so for those stains that have made their way down to the mattress itself, there's one thing that could come in very handy - hydrogen peroxide.
In her video's caption, she said: "Fake tan is a big culprit in our house and it can be so stubborn! But there is an easy fix.
"Hydrogen peroxide is your best friend here. It's a mild bleaching agent that lifts tough stains without damaging most fabrics."
Showing off the stained mattress, Lynsey explained that a spray bottle of 6% hydrogen peroxide can be used to lift any stubborn marks quickly and effectively.
She explained: "Simply spray it directly onto the fake tan stain, leave it to work its magic for 5-10 minutes, then blot away using a white cloth. (I always say white because you can see the stain coming out onto the cloth - so satisfying!)"
After trying out the trick herself and scrubbing it away after just five minutes, it was clear to see that it worked, as the stain vanished from the mattress as if by magic.
Hailing the results as 'perfect', Lynsey added: "Let it air dry fully before popping your sheets back on. Fresh, clean, and fake tan-free."
People in the comments were full of praise for this trick, with one person writing: "This is so helpful." Another said: " I've never tried this - I need to pick some up."
You can buy spray bottles of hydrogen peroxide online, with Lynsey opting for the six percent food-grade option.
