The UK is braced for heavy rain with a deluge of up to 3cm per hour sweeping much of the country, according to WXCHARTS weather maps. The country will be hit by a wet weather front sweeping in from the Atlantic on Saturday 13 September battering Northern Ireland before hitting the remainder of the UK.
At its peak, the wall of rain will stretch from the Highlands of Scotland to the South Coast. A Met Office long-range forecast for the period 9 September - 18 September said: "Much of this period will be unsettled, with low pressure likely to dominate the overall pattern. This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect much of the UK at times.
"Some heavy rain or showers are expected in places, most often in the west and north. Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds, especially if any deep areas of low pressure develop and affect the UK."
The weather will continue with a wet start to September, which has seen weather warnings issued and much of the UK subjected to wind and rain.
Earlier this week, the Met Office warned: "Thursday looks to be unsettled, with widespread showers and occasional thunderstorms.
"Some sunny spells are expected, but rain may become more persistent in parts of western Scotland. Winds will stay brisk, especially near coasts, and temperatures will be around average for the time of year, in the high teens to low 20s.
"By Friday, southern areas will begin to see more settled conditions, with increasing sunshine and fewer showers.
"However, the northwest will remain wet and windy, with a small chance of coastal gales."

The weather on September 13 will see rain smash Northern Ireland throughout the morning, moving eastwards and making contact with England and Scotland by midday.
Heavy rain will then persist through much of the UK, stretching from northern Scotland through eastern and central areas as far south as Plymouth.
Through Sunday, light patches of rain will remain in parts of Scotland and northern England, with much of the country experiencing brief respite from the rain.
A Met Office long-range forecast predicts for the remainder of the period: "Later in the period, there may be some longer spells of drier weather that develop, especially towards the south, with more in the way of sunshine due to higher pressure here.
"Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly below overall, but may rise above at times in any drier, sunnier spells."
