Halloween may be a distant memory, but that doesn't mean the horror genre is drying up.
In fact, horror fans still have time to make new retro-inspired release What the Stars Forgot a reality, as the game enters its final few weeks on Kickstarter.
What the Stars Forgot is described as a "retro-styled sci-fi horror management sim", which isn't a genre you hear about very often.
Set aboard a startship, players take control of an AI supercomputer. The aim is to help your crew navigate a dangerous mission to discover the source of a signal emanating from deep space.
It all sounds very Event Horizon, albeit with more exploding chickens as you can see from the trailer below.
Part of your job will be to assign crewmembers with jobs that best utilise their skills and abilities.
Likewise, you'll need to balance the workload and respond to any sudden emergencies - presumably this is where the exploding chickens come into it.
The game is currently in its funding phase on Kickstarter ahead of a planned 2026 launch.
What the Stars Forgot is seeking just under £20k on Kickstarter, which will be used to create more assets for the game, specifically things like bespoke animations and additional dialogue.
It will enter early access in late December, before potentially releasing in full next March. Of course, these dates are just guidelines, so expect things to change.
Additional stretch goals include controller support and Steam Deck support, which I would personally love to see.
Other stretch goals include additional ship types, new mini-games, pets, relationships and foreign laguage support.
Backers will receive a copy of the game by pledging around £8, which also includes a shout out in the credits. Pledging additional cash unlocks rewards such as soundtracks, t-shirts and hoodies, not to mention the chance to appear as a character in the game.
If you're unsure whether to back the Kickstarter, then it's probably worth checking out the free demo on Steam for a closer look at the game.
