Fans of the hit Starz series Outlander are abuzz with anticipation as a new clip teases the controversial return of Laoghaire MacKenzie (played by Nell Hudson) in the latter half of season seven.
Laoghaire's obsession with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and her envy towards his wife Claire (Caitriona Balfe) have been central to previous seasons.
Despite a marriage to Jamie during Claire's two-decade absence in her own time, their union ended disastrously.
Hudson's comeback to the drama after a three-season hiatus has been confirmed, and the latest snippet from the upcoming episodes reveals her character's re-entry into the fray, leaving fans perplexed.
The exclusive scene, shared on Instagram by Outlander's official page and first obtained by TVLine, shows a tense exchange between Jamie and Claire.
Jamie approaches Claire with a delicate matter, saying, "I need to see Laoghaire. Will you kill me if I do?"
Claire, taken aback, questions whether Jamie is asking for her blessing to visit his former spouse.
Jamie clarifies he isn't seeking permission but felt she should be informed, prompting Claire to comment, "That's very considerate", before probing into his reasons for the visit.
Jamie admits, "I didnae say I want to see her. I need to."
leading Claire to quip about his motives, suggesting, "You know, if you want to find out who she's sleeping with, there are less direct ways.."
Jamie didn't confirm if this was the case, leaving some Outlander fans puzzled as to why the Highlander might need to check his former flame's relationship status.
"I can't think of a single reason why Jamie would care who Laoghaire is sleeping with..lol" one perplexed viewer replied.
To which someone responded: "And honestly I don't ever need to hear the "L" name ever again."
Another baffled fan commented: "I definitively don't understand Jamie, what does he feel the need to see Laoghaire again. Is this about the alimony he's been paying her for years?"
And a final fan vented: "I thought we were finally rid of her!?"
Many Outlander devotees will be understandably annoyed to see Jamie cross paths with Laoghaire again, considering her unforgivable actions towards Claire.
Those who have read Diana Gabaldon's novels already know the full story, but how will Laoghaire react to an unexpected visit from her past?
Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
