Nick Knowles' Strictly Come Dancing return hangs in the balance after horror injury

Send Push

Nick Knowles could be forced to call his Strictly Come Dancing journey early as BBC bosses are allegedly set to put his "health above everything". The DIY SOS star injured himself after making his debut on the dance floor last weekend.

Last Saturday (September 21), the 62-year-old and professional partner Luba Mushtuk, 34, scored a solid 18 from the judges for their jive to We Built This City' by Starship. Just days after placing 12th on the leaderboard, the pair appeared on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two to announce they'd suffered a major setback.

Nick claimed he'd damaged his bicep when trying to change a car tyre on Sunday (September 22). He was "hopeful" that the injury wouldn't force him to pull out of the next live show.

A new report published in The Sun claims Nick could be forced to call time on his Strictly journey whether he likes it or not. "Nick is desperate to dance but the BBC are putting his health above everything," the source alleged.

"He spent all of today with doctors and physios and he said he'll do anything he can to dance again. But ultimately it all comes down to training tomorrow. He will rehearse with Luba and then he will be accessed again by the show doctor."

The source added that if BBC bosses deem the broadcaster at risk of further injury then his "Strictly dream will be over".

"Nick is being really positive as he thinks he will be fine but his welfare and health has to come first."

After making his It Takes Two debut, the father-of-four took to Instagram to give worried fans an update on his arm.

"Today I have seen Dr's and Physio's who have been wonderful," he wrote to his 308,000 followers. "I've had scans (I'll spare you the grim details) and although it's feeling a bit better today, the issue is, we don't know if I can actually use my arm to dance.

"So tomorrow, I'm going to rehearsals with @lubamushtuk and the physio to see just what my arm can do. Then the medics will make a call on if they think I can continue dancing.

"I am still really hopeful that I'll be able to dance this weekend. So fingers crossed..."

In a new interview, the star's fiancée Katie Dadzie has claimed Nick is "a shell of a man" since he began training with Luba.

Speaking to Closer, the lingerie entrepreneur said he was "exhausted" and that the training schedule was "different to what [she] suspected".

"We knew it would be hard work, but he is shattered every day when he comes back," she added. "He is near enough crawling into the house."

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday on BBC One from 6:15pm and Strictly: It Takes Two airs weeknights on BBC Two from 6pm.
