These vibrant blooms don't just look beautiful - they act as a powerful yet natural repellent for houseflies.
Alex said: "Marigolds are also a potent insect-repeller with its strong scent, while they are also a popular flower for many of us with their vibrant colours."
BasilIf you don't have a lot of space in your home or garden to plant lots of flowers, then ones that sit on the windowsill are key - and basil is a great example. This potent herb will help to keep house flies away from your kitchen, and it's great for cooking too.
MintSimilarly, mint is also a great example of a herb that flies hate the smell of. Simply place a pot from the supermarket on your kitchen windowsill and flies will be less likely to stick around.
Other tips for keeping flies at bay include ensuring keeping on top of food waste disposal, as this provides them with a rich source of sustenance.
Cleaning out dirty drains is also important as they can provide moist spaces for the pests to lay eggs, while drains can also contain morsels of food.
