are inundated with applications for the new head coach role, though club owner Doug King has confirmed that he has not spoken with regarding the position.
The former midfielder was thought to be in pole position to take over from Mark Robins, but King's new revelation at a fan forum has distanced themselves from hiring the ex- and Chelsea head coach.
King explained: "I have not spoken to Frank Lampard and Frank Lampard has not spoken to me. Make of that what you will."
This comment seemingly downplays the rampant speculation fuelled by bookmakers who pegged the Chelsea and legend as a frontrunner to replace the recently dismissed Robins.
When pressed for clarity on Lampard's situation, King confirmed the club had received his CV with a nod, but as many as 80 job applications have been received.
And Lampard's style leans more towards a managerial role rather than just coaching, which might not align with City's current structure.
On the hunt for the right fit, King added: "We have a good idea, myself, Dean Austin and Dr Claire-Marie Roberts. I have been doing a lot of things at this football club over the last two years as executive chairman. I have great people around me and hopefully I will make the right call."
King also emphasised the club's appeal, saying: "Listen, there's a lot of interest in this job, believe you me. This is a top, high quality football club with a great squad and a really good set-up at Ryton. We're an attractive proposition for a head coach."
