Fans of Coronation Street have speculated that mild-mannered Roy Cropper (played by David Neilson) could snap in light of his friend Carla Connor's (Alison King) cover-up of Becky Swain's (Amy Cudden) return from the dead. Carla's fiancé Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was dealt a devastating blow lately when the wife she believed dead arrived in Weatherfield explaining she had spent four years in the witness protection programme. Although Carla usually confides in Roy, she didn't share this with him and even led him to believe he was wrong when he thought he had seen Becky. However, the truth was revealed in the latest edition on Friday, September 19, and viewers think Roy's upset could take a dark turn.
"I reckon Royston will take his Ronnie Kray specs to a new level and bump off Becky on behalf of the Manc Mafia, taking a hefty assassin's fee into the bargain. Those cafe bills are mounting up and won't pay themselves," one quipped on X. "Roy got a cricket bat and knows how to use it - just ask Gary," another added. A third chimed in: "Roy has well got a sly M4 under the counter... and one of these days... snap!"
Another person felt his anger was justified, commenting: "Roy's right to be cross with Carla, she did make him think he was going mad..."
Yet another person defended Carla's decsion not to tell him what was going on writing: "No I can't have Roy and Carla falling out!! I know she would have told him eventually."
Meanwhile, a sixth person implored the cafe owner not to get involved. "Oh, Roy, you sweet man. You don't want to be getting involved with this car crash... or fake car crash... or real car crash, but faked death, but also real death of someone else... Just don't get involved!" they penned.
Lisa later tried to explain things to Roy in the cafe, telling him that her daughter, Betsy (Sydney Martin), wants Becky around.
However, they were interrupted by Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) and her daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney), who overheard the tail end of their conversation.
Thinking on her feet, Lisa said she was talking about her sister, who had turned up unexpectedly, but this led to further trouble with Carla when she told her.
The factory owner argued that Becky's claim to be her sister had made things much worse and that she should have claimed to be a school friend or something similar.
With their secret slowly unravelling, it is surely only a matter of time before the entire street knows Becky is back from the dead.
Coronation Street is on ITV and ITVX Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
