Dawn French was the subject of a brutal jab from Daily Express columnist Carole Malone after her latest baffling video posted to X. The Vicar of Dibley star took to TikTok to share her latest video, but fans worried they were "witnessing a descent into madness" as the comedy icon went on a rant about Christmas - in August.
With no introduction, she was seen on camera saying: "Yes, so... Christmas. You know, it comes round and you're all like 'ding ding ding, the holly and the ivy!'" A period of semi-incoherent singing in the style of The Pogues followed, before she went on: "Oh God bless him.
"And it's all 'Come in, come in, thank you for that, here's yours, hope you like it!' Haha! Everybody is lovely! Here's the food and 28 vegetables, I know you don't eat that and you don't have dairy and [blah blah]... And erm, anyway, it's all lovely and now go home! Go home! Anyway, it's lovely."
By the end of the video she was shouting at the camera, which left Carole to launch a brutal jab at the comedian.
She tweeted: "I'm trying to remember a time when Dawn French was funny. She really needs to get off social media while she has a shred of credibility left."
Fans on X agreed with Carole, with one wondering: "Are we witnessing a descent into madness? How can she think this is even slightly amusing?"
Someone else said: "I've always found her funny to be honest, but lately, it's disappointing to see these clips. Not sure where it all went wrong for her."
And another added: "She used to do this kind of skit when she was at her height, it was okay but it's had its time and now she's just coming over as unhinged. Doesn't she have family or friends to tell her it's embarrassing?"
