Arsenal fell short in the Premier League title race yet again during the 2024/25 campaign as they . But the Gunners could finally lift the trophy for the first time since 2004 next season if they spend their summer budget on Newcastle striker .
Arsenal appeared to be in a title battle with Liverpool in the spring as both sides wrestled to get the upper hand in the race for the trophy. But Mikel Arteta's side fell away towards the end of the season, with the Reds ultimately winning the title by 10 points. Arsenal were rocked by key absences during the second half of the campaign, with Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka all sidelined at the same time. And the team faltered in front of goal.
Arsenal were in the running to land Isak when he was still plying his trade for Real Sociedad a few years ago. The Gunners have also during his time with Newcastle - and it is obvious what the appeal is.
Isak has netted 62 goals in 109 matches for the Magpies and has been a constant menace to defenders in England.
He finished the campaign with 23 goals in 34 league matches and is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League so would solve Arsenal's issues in the final third of the pitch.
Arteta has come under fire for his failure to sign a goalscorer in recent seasons, with former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry telling earlier this week: "When you look at the injuries and you look at the players that came, he brought players. He got [Raheem] Sterling when everyone wanted a nine. He had time to get a nine.
"I'm not the coach, I don't know how the discussion [went]. Everyone has been screaming for a nine - apart from when we win, by the way. When we beat Real Madrid, we didn't need a nine."
Arsenal have reportedly turned their attention to RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko and Sporting front man Viktor Gyokeres ahead of the summer transfer window. But in Isak, they would get their hands on a striker who has been there and done it in the Premier League. And his proven ability in England is worth paying through the nose for.
If Arsenal did attempt to prise Isak away from St James' Park once and for all, they would have to prove Newcastle icon Alan Shearer wrong.
The Match of the Day pundit is desperate for his former employers to keep hold of the Sweden international this summer and recently told : "Got to keep him and they will, I'm pretty sure of that.
"Because of their success this year and because they're in the Champions League... there's not a worry in my mind that he's going anywhere. He'll be a Newcastle player next season. He's a very, very, very good player."
