Thereafter, it may move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by October 24 morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its morning bulletin.

The IMD DG, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, had earlier said that Odisha is likely to bear the maximum brunt of the cyclonic storm, which is likely to be name ‘Dana’, a name given by Qatar.

The weather agency has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Odisha on October 23. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may also occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on October 24-25.

While the IMD has yet to make any prediction on path, intensity or landfall position of the season’s first tropical cyclone, weather models indicate that the system may cross the Odisha coast near Puri or near Bhubaneswar.
