Russia Summons Canadian Envoy Over Alleged "False Accusations" of Sabotage Against NATO Countries

MOSCOW – Russia summoned Canada’s envoy to Moscow on Friday, expressing strong objections to what it termed as "false accusations" suggesting Russian involvement in sabotage activities targeting Canada and NATO countries via mail. The Russian Foreign Ministry called the claims a part of the US and its allies' "hybrid war" against Russia.

In a statement posted on its website, the ministry said that a deputy official from the Canadian Embassy was summoned to formally address the “disinformation.” The statement accused the US and allied countries of orchestrating coordinated false claims regarding explosives allegedly sent by Russia through postal services to recipients in Canada and other nations.

Highlighting Canada’s ongoing military support to Ukraine, which includes the provision of weapons and private contractors, the ministry stated that such accusations could serve as a pretext for “a harsh anti-Russian provocation.”

Russia’s ministry further warned that any "false flag" provocations would rest on the shoulders of the accusing nations, including Canada, saying, “The Canadian side was informed that any hostile actions would not go unanswered, as they had not in the past. Canadian authorities should act cautiously and refrain from actions that might escalate tensions with Russia.”

Recently, US media sources reported allegations of Russian agents using mail services to deliver explosives across Europe and North America. Russian officials have strongly denied these allegations, pointing out that postal connections between Russia and regions in Europe, the US, and Canada were terminated in 2022, making such activities implausible.
