In Bollywood, some bonds go beyond friendship — they border on family. One such legendary relationship is that of Mithun Chakraborty and Amitabh Bachchan. Mithun, who deeply respects Big B as his elder brother, once performed a shocking and intense act to pray for Amitabh’s survival during one of the darkest moments in the superstar’s life.

The Accident on the Sets of ‘Coolie’

Back in 1982, while shooting the iconic action film ‘Coolie’, Amitabh Bachchan suffered a near-fatal injury. During a fight scene with Puneet Issar, a mistimed punch landed hard on Big B’s stomach, causing severe internal damage. He was rushed to the hospital and declared clinically dead for a brief period. The nation prayed for his recovery, and the film industry was gripped with fear and hope.

Mithun’s Blood Oath at Goddess Kali’s Temple

Among those desperately hoping for Amitabh’s recovery was Mithun Chakraborty. Filled with anguish and faith, Mithun took a dramatic and extraordinary step — he ripped open his own chest to take a blood oath for Amitabh’s safety. Covered in his own blood, Mithun visited the temple of Goddess Kali, praying fervently for the superstar’s life.

Years later, Amitabh revealed this powerful story on a TV show:

“When I was seriously injured, Mithun Da prayed so hard, he took a dangerous oath by cutting his chest and letting his blood flow. He went to Kali Maa’s temple and prayed for me and my family. That’s the kind of feelings Mithun Da has for us.”

A Brother’s Love Beyond Limits

Mithun himself confirmed:

“When Dada (Amitabh) was at death’s door and doctors had lost hope, I took that blood oath. I even visited him in the hospital during those critical days.”

This extraordinary gesture is a testament to the deep respect, love, and brotherhood that thrives in the Bollywood fraternity, beyond the glitz and glamour.
