To promote electric vehicles in the country, the central government is running the PM E-Drive scheme. This scheme will be in force till March 31, 2026, and its objective is to encourage the sale of electric 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, and e-buses. Under the scheme, the government gives subsidies directly to the customers so that it is easy to adopt EVs.
Recently, Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy informed that more than 50 percent of the target of this scheme has been achieved so far. Especially the sales of electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers have been better than expected, so that the vehicles getting subsidy can be completed quickly.
Under the PM E-Drive scheme, a target was set to give subsidies on a total of 25 lakh electric 2-wheelers. As of May 30, 2025, 11,98,707 units out of this have already been sold. That is, now only about 12 lakh units are left, on which subsidy will be available. That is, this may be the last chance to buy an EV.
Similarly, in the 3-wheeler category, subsidy is to be given on about 3.2 lakh units. Out of these, 1.55 lakh units have already been sold and now only 1.6 lakh units are left on which government subsidy will be given. It is clear from this that if the demand increases in the coming months, this number can be completed soon.
Under the scheme, initiatives are also being taken regarding e-bus. So far, 5 cities of the country have expressed the demand for e-bus, in response to which the government has approved 10,900 e-buses. Under the scheme, subsidy will be given on a total of 14,028 e-buses, for which a budget of Rs 4,391 crore has been fixed.
