Snooker star makes history and banks whopping bonus for recording two 147s in SAME match

Jackson Page made snooker history - and scooped a whopping £147,000 bonus in the process. World Snooker Tour bosses had offered up the six-figure payday for any player that recorded two 147 breaks across any of the Triple Crown events.

And the Welshman managed that feat in just ONE game as Page rattled in two perfect frames during his 10-2 demolition of Allan Taylor in World Championship qualifying.

Page recorded the first of his 147s on Sunday, and followed it up on Monday, becoming the first player to ever record a pair of maximum breaks in the same match.

“It feels great breaking records,” Page said. “It’s a great bonus. It’s a great feeling to have my first and second 147s at the worlds. It’s mad. The 15th black, I thought I had blown it. I’m over the moon. There will be a nice summer holiday when the season’s over.”

As well as the massive bonus payment, he has also guaranteed himself at least a share of the £15,000 pot for the tournament’s biggest break. Page now moves into the final round of qualifying for the main event at the Crucible which starts later this week.

The 23-year-old made it to the opening round of last year’s championship - but ran into Ronnie O’Sullivan who cruised to a 10-1 victory. It remains to be seen whether the Rocket will be in place this time around though, with the 49-year-old leaving it late to decide whether he will enter.

The seven-time champion is in the midst of an extended break from the game, last appearing in January. Since, he has skipped a number of high-profile events - including the Masters - with fans fearing he could retire.

Speaking last week, O’Sullivan’s manager Jason Francis was asked about his client’s intentions of appearing in Sheffield. He said: "Listen, if I had a pound (for every time I was asked that) then I wouldn’t need to be doing any of this. Obviously so many people are asking me. We spent the day together last Thursday going over some stuff.

"He seems to have a cue that he’s happy with. He is hitting balls. But he’s said nothing different to me than he’s said to everyone else. He will decide, last minute, whether he wants to go. The only thing I’ve said is that, if you’re going to go, then you have to go and give it everything.

"This is the World Championship. But if you don’t feel right, and if it's mental health or anxiety, bear in mind I’ve been party to see this. It's not just something that affects Ronnie.

"All of us know that Ronnie is his own man and will make his own decision. As a snooker fan we’d love him to play there. But it has to be at what cost to his mental health."
