Lionel Messi's six luxury hotels featuring £43 Ballon d'Or desert and superstar's 'personal touches'

Footballing icon Lionel Messi runs six luxury hotels, with one boasting a restaurant that offers a specialised Ballon d'Or dessert. Messi has been active in the hotel industry for eight years, adding his personal touch to all of his developments.

Since 2017, the World Cup winner has expanded his property portfolio through the MiM Hotels brand, which is managed by the Majestic Hotel Group. Inter Miami star Messi has won eight Ballon d'Or awards in his legendary career - the most by any player in history.

Such is his affiliation with the prestigious award, he has now entwined his success with the trophy with a culinary delight that is available at his restaurant, Hincha, which is based at his five-star hotel in Andorra. If you fancy trying the chocolate Ballon d'Or, an edible football you can crack open to reveal its golden contents, it will set you back £29, or £43 for a large version, which has been a point of contention amongst some fans.

Hincha’s food is prepared by acclaimed Catalan chef Nandu Jubany, who has been awarded a Michelin star. Jubany's luxurious menu features classic Argentine grilled dishes such sirloin steak and classic empanadas.

The average price of a meal at Hincha is £43 per person, which is said to include a high-quality gastronomic experience in an exclusive setting. The restaurant lies in the halls of the hotel, with the accommodation opening in February 2023, marking it as the latest addition to Messi’s hotel empire.

The hotel offers a spa and pool area, but most notably it contains another of the superstar's personalised touches - the 'Leo Messi Suite'.

The room is styled as an exclusive space with a terrace overlooking the promenade and an outdoor heated jacuzzi. Prices per night start at around £172 for standard rooms, while the Messi suite will set you back a staggering £477 a night.

If you're torn between which Messi-owned hotel to visit then you're fortunate to have quite a choice. Located in Sotogrande marina in Cadiz, Andalusia, this boutique hotel offers a nautical vibe and boasts views over the Mediterranean Sea. Double rooms start at £200 while suites can stretch to a whopping £440 per night.

Next up is a hotel in the heart of Sitges, a coastal town 40 minutes away from Barcelona. This hotel was the first to become part of Messi’s monopoly and contains 77 rooms, including suites that are adorned with private terraces and sea views.

A spa with a heated pool, state-of-the-art gym, panoramic terrace with bar, and an outdoor pool can all be yours with prices for a standard double room starting from £105 per night in the off-season.

In 2018, Messi acquired the Es Vivé hotel near the Ses Figueretes beach in Ibiza. It has 52 rooms furnished with contemporary aesthetics and nightly rates range from £195 to £455 - depending on season and your choice of room.

In 2020, the World Cup winner expanded his portfolio once again with the acquisition of another hotel located in Mallorca, which is just metres from the sea. The average nightly rate is about £170, although options start at £100 in low season.

Messi also owns a hotel in the Baqueira Beret ski resort. The mountain hotel is designed for those wishing to combine sporting activities with luxury and nightly rates start at a relatively affordable £130.
