With our busy lives often pulling on our purse strings from the cost of living crisis, expensive bills, days out with the kids over summer holidays, social plans and more, saving money where we can is important. Many of us enjoy using apps like eBay, Depop, Vinted or Facebook Marketplace toget good dealsand second-hand items, as well as our local charity shops. However, it turns out even places known for their affordability also inflate costs.
One individual shared their fury after recently doing a spot of thrift shopping. It comes after they were shopping in a Goodwill store and found a Brentwood blender, but noticed its jar and lip were being sold separately to the electronic base.
In a Reddit post, the baffled shopper, said: "Parting out a blender set? Insanity." A label on the jug reads 'only cup' and a price tag of £4.46 ($5.99) and a label on the base reading 'only bottom' and a price tag of £7.44 ($9.99).

One individual commented on the post and said: "Wow. That's wild and sadly believable." Then a social media user sternly stated: "That is sick. I no longer shop at Goodwill but I am not shocked they would do this."
Another wrote: "This is so stupid and somewhat infuriating every time I see them do something like this. Nobody is going to a thrift store to get just a replacement base or just a replacement jar."
Someone else said: "This is ridiculous! Way beyond infuriating than when they split dinnerware sets."
One individual commented: "Reminds of when I went to a thrift store and they were selling the pots/pans separate from the lids."
Another shared they were in a similar situation, and wrote: "They got me like this on a kids pyjama top and bottom! I was flabbergasted when they found a second tag. Ended up being over £9 ($12) for used Kirkland kids pyjamas."
However one individual said they could understand the sale; some people may just need one part of the blender. They explained: "I would imagine that there are people who are looking for just one having broken part of their blender so they can have a working one again. But that would likely be for a high-dollar blender. That is not this. You could replace it as cheaply.
"Just saying, like in the old days when you broke the glass pot for your Mr Coffee drip coffee maker, you didn't just buy a whole new one. You hoped some thrift place had just the pot. New ones cost too much, and you didn't just throw things out."
Another pointed out: "My Goodwill prices were super high for a while but they’re starting to fall back down again. They also cut way back on the handpicked department, so hopefully they're starting to wake up and realise no one's going to pay that much."
Goodwill has been contacted for a comment.
In other second hand news, a charity shop worker, who advises people on the do's and don'ts of donating their second hand items, insists one popular gift is being donated too often - and tells people to stop buying it.
Plus, she ranted about people using charity shops for the "wrong" reason; claiming many are using them like a "dumping ground".
