When it comes to adding volume and smoothness to hair, many women go for a salon blow dry. While the primary purpose of this service is to dry hair, it offers much more than that as it styles hair, reduces frizz and can enhance shine.
Hair stylists typically use a dryer and certain brushes to create a variety ofstyles, like straight and sleek or voluminous and bouncy. A salon blow dry can help people get a polished look with smooth, manageable hair. Hair and beauty fans often get this professional service before a special occasion or any time they want to feel a bit more put together.
However, getting salon blow dries regularly will likely become costly so some people are learning how they can replicate this look themselves at home.

Alex Coll is a fashion, lifestyle and horse riding content creator who shared a TikTok tutorial on how you can get an “expensive-looking blow dry” at home using a straightener.
She said: “This is the lazy girl’s guide to getting that fresh blow dry look at home without going to the hairdressers. All you’re going to need is just your hair straightener.”
The fashion guru explained she does this hairstyle regularly and feels like she has perfected it now so decided to teach others how they can do it too.
Alex starts by splitting the top half and bottom half of her hair into two sections. She gives the bottom a quick brush and then takes a small section of hair.
Holding the straightener horizontally, she clamps the hair in and twists the straightener under, “almost making the hair do a u-turn” so the end of that section of hair is facing her head.
She slowly pulls the straightener down through the hair until she’s left with a small, curly, bouncy shape.
Alex added: “Top tip - the slower you go the more pronounced the curl will be.” She repeated this step across the whole bottom section of her hair.
The fashion enthusiast applies hair spray to this section before moving onto the top. She used the Color Wow Texas Hold-Em spray.
Alex continued: “Now time for the top section. I’m gonna split the top section into two halves just to make it easier and then you’re just gonna repeat the exact same steps on the top halves.”
She pulls the straightener through the top section of her half using the same process as she used for the bottom, working with one half at a time.
Alex left out the front, shortest piece of her hair as she likes to curl it away from her face “so that it sits just right".
After straightening both halves of the top section of her hair she holds them in place with hair spray and then uses a wide toothed comb to “brush it out to give it that fluffy look".
For the final touch, the fashion content creator recommends applying the Living Proof Volume and Texture spray to your hair if you want to add more volume.
Her TikTok tutorial has been well received by viewers who found it helpful. One commented: “This is such a great hack for achieving a blow-dry look with minimal tools! The results are flawless, sleek, voluminous, and so polished!”
Another said: “Love the u-turn comment! That will help me remember which way to turn the straightener, thank you.” A third told Alex it looked like she had “just stepped out of the salon".
