BSH Home Appliances celebrated regional Indian cuisine through contemporary techniques elevated with modern appliance technology at an exclusive masterclass hosted at the Siemens Brand Store in Chennai. As part of Siemens’ efforts to reimagine the kitchen experience, this edition featured acclaimed Chef Harish Rao, who combined timeless traditional flavours with innovative culinary artistry under the theme ‘Heritage on a Plate – Spice, Soul, Sweet’.
Designed for an intimate gathering of a curated group of tastemakers and food enthusiasts, the interactive session showcased how Indian culinary traditions can be elevated in today’s kitchens through Siemens’ advanced built-in appliances. Chef Harish guided attendees through a hands-on cooking session, re-imagining three exquisite dishes:
- Shemiji Mushroom Varuval – a refined take on the roadside favourite Rottu Kadai Kalan
- Elaneer Pepper Fry – fresh coconut meat tossed with pepper masala, paired with delicate roti jala
- Ragi Molten Cake – a Hosa-style rendition of lava cake, enriched with Belgian white chocolate and served alongside vanilla orange ice cream
The highlights of the session were Siemens’ state-of-the-art appliances, which elevated each dish with precision, efficiency, and ease.
The Siemens Induction Cooktop, equipped with dual lightSlider touch control, offered effortless precision by allowing seamless adjustment of temperature levels with just a swipe. Its rapid heating not only ensured that the Shemiji Mushroom Varuval retained its crisp texture and evenly blended spices but also brought finesse to the Elaneer Pepper Fry, balancing delicate coconut water flavors with the sharpness of pepper without the risk of overcooking. Beyond convenience, its advanced technology helped save time in the kitchen while preserving the nutritional value of the ingredients, making every meal healthier and more wholesome.
The Siemens Steam Oven played a starring role in creating the indulgent Ragi Molten Cake. With its innovative 4D HotAir technology, heat was distributed evenly across all levels, ensuring consistent baking results. The gentle steam function infused moisture into the cake, producing a perfectly risen texture with a soft, gooey center. Whether baking or steaming, the oven allowed guests to savor their favorite delicacies without worrying about excess calories, redefining indulgence with a healthier approach. The masterclass was not just about recipes, but a celebration of culture, creativity, and innovation.
Commenting on the experience, Chef Harish Rao said, “For me, South Indian food is about memory and soul, flavours that carry stories across generations. What excites me is taking these classics and reimagining them with new techniques, so they feel both familiar and surprising. Working with Siemens’ appliances allowed me to respect the authenticity of each dish, while elevating it with a precision and consistency that is rarely possible outside a professional kitchen. It’s this harmony of heritage and innovation that makes the experience truly special.”
Pinaki Gupta, Head of Brand Marketing, BSH Home Appliances, said, “Siemens is at the forefront of reimagining the modern kitchen, not just as a place to cook, but as the heart of contemporary living. With our range of design-forward, intuitive appliances, we aim to empower home chefs to explore creativity while staying rooted in the culture. This masterclass beautifully captured that philosophy, showcasing how state-of-the-art German engineering and regional heritage can coexist to create truly elevated experiences. “
The session concluded with a guided tasting session, an engaging Q&A with the chef, and a walkthrough of Siemens’ innovative product portfolio, leaving attendees with a fresh perspective on how tradition and technology can come together in the modern kitchen.
