The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its weekly forecast for the country, covering July 1 to July 7, 2025. With the southwest monsoon arriving ahead of schedule this year, heavy rainfall has already been recorded across multiple regions, including coastal and hill states. The IMD warns of intense showers, localized flooding, lightning, and landslides in several areas this week. Here's a comprehensive region-wise breakdown of what to expect in the coming days:
1. Northern India: Thunderstorms, Landslides, and Flood RisksHimachal Pradesh:
Widespread moderate to heavy rain is likely until July 6, especially in high-altitude regions. The IMD has flagged the risk of landslides, soil erosion, and lightning in vulnerable districts.
Uttarakhand:
July 1 could bring extremely heavy rainfall in the hills. From July 1–6, landslides and flooding in rivers and low-lying areas are expected. Farmers are advised to protect crops from waterlogging.
Punjab & Haryana:
Both states will see scattered showers throughout the week. While rainfall will help ease temperatures, rising humidity levels may cause discomfort.
Delhi-NCR:
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely. Temperatures will remain below average (by 3–5°C), providing relief from heat. Wind speeds may reach 30–50 km/h.
Uttar Pradesh:
July 1 may witness intense rainfall in western districts like Meerut and Noida. Eastern UP, including Varanasi, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur, could see moderate to heavy showers between July 3–6. Lightning risks remain high across the region.
Rajasthan:
Scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecasted till July 2. Heavier rain is likely in eastern parts by July 5. Temperatures will drop slightly but humidity will persist.
Gujarat:
Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted in districts like Porbandar, Valsad, and Jamnagar between July 1–6. Gusty winds (40–60 km/h) may accompany showers, especially in coastal regions.
Maharashtra & Goa:
The Konkan belt, Goa, and interior Maharashtra—especially hilly areas—will experience significant rainfall throughout the week.
Madhya Pradesh:
The monsoon is fully active. Districts like Jabalpur and Balaghat may receive very heavy rainfall on July 1, while Bhopal and Vidisha can expect moderate showers and thunderstorms. Rain will continue across Rewa, Satna, and Damoh until July 6.
Chhattisgarh:
Expect widespread heavy rainfall, particularly in eastern and central zones. Rain and thunderstorm activity is expected to persist through the week.
Bihar & Odisha:
Both states may experience intense rainfall up to July 4, with Odisha seeing a particularly wet spell through July 3. Flooding in low-lying regions is a concern.
Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim:
From June 30 to July 6, these regions will face isolated heavy rainfall, with occasional thunderstorms and strong winds. Sub-Himalayan districts may witness flash floods and landslides.
The northeastern states will see widespread showers throughout the week.
July 2–3: Very heavy rain expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur.
July 6: Another strong spell forecast for Assam and Meghalaya.
Kerala:
From July 2–4, heavy rainfall will hit districts like Kozhikode and Malappuram. Landslides are possible in hill areas, with strong winds across coastal belts.
Andhra Pradesh & Telangana:
Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms expected in scattered locations through the week.
Karnataka:
Coastal Karnataka (Udupi, Mangaluru) may see heavy to very heavy rain till July 6. Interior districts will observe increased rainfall from July 3–5.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal:
Heat and humidity will dominate due to lack of rain till July 2. Chennai, Madurai, and Trichy may see light rain, but temperatures will remain high.
The IMD has issued flood warnings for the next 24 hours in:
- Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts of Himachal Pradesh
- Chamoli, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, and Pauri in Uttarakhand
These areas could experience flash floods due to heavy rainfall.
July 1: Cloudy with light to moderate rainfall and thunder. Max temp: 32–34°C, Min temp: 24–26°C.
July 2: Partly cloudy with light rain. Max: 33–35°C, Min: 25–27°C.
July 3: Light rain with thunderstorms expected. Max: 32–34°C, Min: 26–28°C.
From flash flood risks in the hills to torrential downpours in the plains and coastal areas, the monsoon is in full swing across India. Residents are advised to stay alert, follow regional advisories, and plan travel or outdoor activities accordingly.
