PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, individuals installing a 1-kilowatt rooftop solar system are eligible for a subsidy of ₹30,000, while those opting for a 2-kilowatt system receive up to ₹60,000 in subsidies. This scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, offers up to 300 units of free electricity and substantial government support for rooftop solar installation.
Popular Demand and Growth in Uttar Pradesh
The scheme has gained widespread popularity, especially in Uttar Pradesh, where the government aims to make Ayodhya a solar city. The state plans to install 2.5 million solar rooftops over the next three years, with over 43,000 installations already in place. Many participants report high satisfaction with the scheme's benefits.
High Demand and Quick Subsidy Processing
As of now, 1.3 crore people have registered for the scheme, with 18 lakh applications processed. While subsidy approval may take a month, the government is working to shorten this to seven days.
Subsidy Transfer Process
With this scheme, subsidies are given directly to the participant's bank account, reducing the installation cost. The subsidy amount varies by system size:
- ₹30,000 per kilowatt for systems up to 2 kilowatts
- ₹48,000 per kilowatt up to 3 kilowatts
- ₹78,000 for installations over 3 kilowatts
