Statement of Inspector Sanjay Shinde

Yesterday around 5:30 pm, after taking accused Akshay Shinde into custody from Taloja jail, we were taking him to Ganesha K-1 office in Thane. At that time, I was accompanied by Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More, Police Constable Abhijit More and Harish Tawde. API Nilesh More, Constable Abhijit More and Harish Tawde were sitting with Akshay Shinde in the back of the van and I was sitting next to the driver. When the van reached near Sheel Post Office, I got a call from Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More, who told me that Akshay Shinde was shouting loudly.

After this I stopped the car and sat in the back seat. Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More was sitting in front of me, accused Akshay Shinde was sitting next to him and then Police Havildar Abhijeet More. I tried to calm Akshay down, but he was abusing. Meanwhile, when our car reached the Y Junction Bridge in Mumbai, at around 6:15 pm, Akshay Shinde suddenly tried to snatch the government pistol from the waist pants of Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More. He was shouting - let me go.

In this struggle, Nilesh More's pistol got loaded and a bullet hit his left leg, causing him to fall down. Akshay Shinde shouted loudly while holding the pistol that now I will not leave anyone alive and he suddenly pointed the pistol towards Havildar Harish Tawde and fired two bullets with the intention of killing him, but fortunately those bullets did not hit us. Seeing this furious form of Akshay and his intentions, we were completely sure that he was going to kill us, so for the safety of myself and my colleagues, I fired a shot from my pistol towards Akshay, due to which he got injured and fell down and the pistol fell from his hand.

After this, we overpowered the accused Akshay Shinde and instructed the driver to take the car to the nearby Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, Kalwa. There I admitted the accused Akshay Shinde and Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More for treatment. The doctors started treatment, but I later came to know that the accused Akshay Shinde had died before he could be admitted to the hospital.
