VC firm Peak XV Partners has backed fertility-focussed healthtech startup Luma Fertility. The VC firm’s seed platform, Surge, led the startup’s $4 Mn seed funding round, which also saw participation from Metropolis Healthcare’s executive director Ameera Shah and B2V Ventures’ chairman Vijay Taparia.
The startup intends to use the capital to expand its footprint in Mumbai, where it currently operates one clinic. It targets to open 50 clinics in metro cities.
The funding comes at a time when infertility is emerging as a growing concern in India, affecting both men and women. The IVF treatment segment is on the rise in the country as over 33 Mn couples are facing fertility issues. The market is expected to reach a size of $5 Bn by 2033.
Based on her fertility journey, Neha Motwani founded Luma Fertility in 2024 to help solve the problems she faced.
“From my own experience and after speaking to hundreds of women, it became clear that fertility care in India is broken. It’s optimised for systems, not people. At Luma, we’ve rebuilt it from the ground up—designed entirely around the patient,” Motwani said.
This is not Motwani’s first tryst with entrepreneurship. Earlier, she founded corporate fitness and gym aggregator platform Fitternity, which was acquired by CureFit in 2021. With her latest venture, she takes on the likes of new-age startups like Arva Health, Inito, ElaWoman, along with well-established Birla Fertility and IVF, Indira IVF and Cloud Nine Hospitals.
Luma Fertility operates a 6,000 sq ft fertility clinic in Mumbai and offers services including IVF, egg and embryo freezing, fertility assessments and pre-conception consultations. It also claims to provide at-home semen analysis, personalised reports, and more.
The startup also has a mobile application which helps patients track their fertility journey and access reports. It also has an AI-integrated tool which helps users in jargon-free support, from cycle timelines to medication guidance.
