Goa tiatr review: 'Konnache Chukik ...?' is a family drama with a message

Noted for political songs, Saby de Divar’s seasonal tiatr, Konnache Chukik Lagon? is a family melodrama, focusing on the pros and cons in a family. When children get what they demand without giving a second thought to their demands, what is the outcome? This has been highlighted in the drama.

Sometimes, parents are responsible for the misfortunes of a family, and rectification of these things could come too late.

ABOUT THE TIATR

The story revolves around two families, namely Pascoal (Pascoal Rodrigues), his spouse Roma (Roma) and their two children Joylixa (Joylixa) and Frazer (Frazer).

On the other hand, there’s the power minister’s daughter Antonette (Antonette de Maina), who is a widow and residing with her two grown-up children Franky (Franky Gonsalves) and (Joylita).

Serving as a security guard in a bank, Pascoal tries his level best to provide for his family, including his children by giving them the best possible education. Frazer’s dream is to become a software engineer and Joylixa’s dream is to become a doctor.

Antonette boasts of the wealth that she owns, and does not hesitate to give her children whatever they ask of her. Franky and Joylita enjoy late nights in the local and are entangled in drugs.

Unfortunately, Frazer and Joylixa meet with a major accident, and both are grievously injured and confined to wheelchairs at home. However, despite their disability, both do not give up their studies and careers.

Franky and Joylita continue enjoying life at the cost of their mother, who also relishes as a single parent.

Over a period of time, what follows next in both families is worth the watch during the second half of the drama. Will Frazer and Joylixa recover from their injuries, and succeed in fulfilling their dreams? What fate awaits Franky and Joylita’s for living a life of extravagance?

BEHIND THE SCENES

All the artistes have given fine performances on stage with actors selected as per the characters. As disciplined guardians, Pascoal and stand out, while Antonette de Maina who chases materialistic things also gives her best in the acts.

As good siblings, Frazer and Joylixa deliver good performances, while Franky Gonsalves and Joylita as spoilt brats are equally good in their acting.

In the comic acts, there’s comedian Sally taking along with him David, Myron, Richard and Sanica, and they entertain with a good dose of laughter pills. They are a treat to watch on stage.

In the section of songs, Joylita and Joylixa come on stage for the opening song, followed by solos from Xavier Gomes, Jr Reagan, Lawry Travasso and Pascoal Rodrigues. There are other songs by Antonette de Maina, Joylita and Roma; Jr Reagan and Joylixa, Richard and Myron.

A solo by Saby de Divar, a song by Myron, David and Fr Anscliff as a tribute to the late comedian Selvy receives encores from the audience. A song by Frazer, Lawry, Xavier and Saby de Divar also receives an encore.

The band offstage by (trumpet) and his musical team of Nazareth (saxophone), Lenoy (keyboard), Manu (drums) have provided good live music.

The stage sets are by Anthony de Ambajim and lights have been handled by Romeo.
